I have made a series of hearts from the ceramic findings that Flo and I discovered. The shape of the heart depicts our unwavering love for St Ives whilst the multitude of tiny works of art bursting at the seams of the heart’s outline, collectively reflects the many stories and memories that people hold dear when thinking of our hometown.

Each heart is unique. No two are the same.

The Big Heart

An autumn creation 2019

The heart is 30cm/1 ft at its widest point in the frame. Frame dimensions are 45cm by 45cm/17.5 inches by 17.5 inches

This creation was the first large heart that I put together and it means a great deal to Flo and I. This was the start of our journey together. We realised through collecting the pieces for this heart that finding sea treasure was something that we loved doing together. It was a calming past-time for both of us.

The Winter Heart

A New Year – 2020 Creation

The heart is 23cm/9 inches at its widest point in the frame. Frame dimensions are 35.7cm by 35.7cm/ Just under 14 inches by 14 inches.

After hanging our Big Heart on our living room wall, we realised just how much joy it brought us. We kept reminiscing about the pieces we’d both found and the stories we’d created. As a result, Flo and I decided to collect findings during the winter months for a Winter Heart. We wanted to create something that others could enjoy.

Harbour Finding Hearts

Each heart is approximately 10cm/4 inches at its widest point in the frame. Frame dimensions are 20cm by 20cm/8 inches by 8 inches.

Here we experimented with different coloured mounts to enhance some of the colourful pieces of ceramic that we found.

Mini Hearts

Each heart is approximately 6cm/2.5 inches at its widest point in the frame. Frame dimensions are 12cm by 12cm/Just over 4.5 inches by 4.5 inches.

These Mini Hearts came about as a result of friends and family wanting a small keepsake of their favourite place. They’re a bit fiddly to make but the end result is always satisfying and they look great!

Tiny Findings From St Ives

The hearts are approximately two inches at their widest point in the frame. Frame dimensions are 12cm by 12cm/just over 4.5 inches by 4.5 inches.

These Tiny Findings From St Ives hearts were inspired by a commission. A lovely lady asked us if we could create a smaller version of the Mini Harbour Finding Hearts. This meant finding smaller findings. Flo and I so enjoyed collecting and then uniting the tiny discoveries that we decided to make some more! The findings were found on the Harbour Beach and near Lambeth Walk.

Heart Clusters

The hearts are approximately 5.5cm/2.2 inches at their widest point in the frame. Frame dimensions are 20cm by 20cm/8 inches by 8 inches.

I’ve only made a few of these Heart Clusters. There’s something about the unity of the four hearts together that reminds us of family and togetherness.

Heart Duos

The large heart is approximately 10cm/4 inches at its widest and the small heart is approximately 5cm/2 inches at its widest. Frame dimensions are just over 24cm by 24cm/9 and a half inches by 9 and a half inches.

These Heart Duos were our response to Covid-19. They are made especially for these uncertain times. They’re a reminder of what is important – family and community.

Porthmeor Love Hearts

The two hearts are approximately 7cm/just under 3 inches at their widest point in the frame. Frame dimensions are 20cm by 20cm/8 inches by 8 inches.

Flo and I love Porthmeor Beach. It is the beach that is nearest to our home and we’ve spent many times sauntering along it. In recent times, we’ve found the beach to be quite stony and with the stones there has been sea treasure! We decided to unite the findings in two love hearts to reflect our companionship whilst walking together.
